| PLOT SYNOPSIS for Hyokkori Hyoutan-Jima (1991) DVD-Box Set 1: Kaizoku no Maki / Majo Rika no |
 |
| [NHK DVD] NHK has a long tradition of puppet shows on TV aimed at kids. The original 'Hyokkori Hyoutan-Jima' (1964-69) was, without doubt, not only the most successful among them, but one of the most famous TV shows ever produced in Japan. This remake version (1991) titled 'Fukkoku-Ban' (facsimile edition) was made with the original scripts (when they were not available, surviving writer Yasushi Inoue restored them with the help of a devoted fan who 'recorded' the stories on his notebooks), and the original voice cast (with the exception of a few actors who had passed away). - When Ms. Sunday takes her students to Hyoutan-Jima ('Gourd island' after its shape), the volcano of the island exploded, and the island is separated by the main land and begins to float in the ocean. As the story goes, Hyotan-Jima has more residents, some permanent, some temporary. This set contains Vol.1-6, which are stories of 'Kaizoku no Maki' (The volume of Pirates) (17 episodes, 30min each) and 'Majo Rika no Maki' (The volume of Rika the witch) (4 episodes, 40min each). See individual titles for the details. |
